Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine AAID MaxiCourse®

The NSU AAID Maxi Continuum is a University based program providing ADA CERP credits totaling 300 hours (attendees must attend all modules and satisfy the requirements of the course to earn the full credits).

Participation hours in almost every session (Participation hours include a variety of hands on sessions, reviews, case presentations and case work ups).

Over 10 speakers who are experts in implant dentistry

This program has been designed to impart the understanding of diagnostic and treatment modalities necessary to properly treat patients who are candidates for dental implant therapy. The interdisciplinary approach utilizes case-based learning methodology that will include lectures, hands-on simulation sessions with laboratory models, fresh frozen cadaver surgery and Live implant placement surgery. The cadaver surgical Module will include dental extractions with implant placement, soft and hard tissue grafting, bone augmentation, and sinus lift procedures. All relevant anatomical structures will be reviewed through dissection and demonstration. Throughout Maxicourse, there will be literature review of pertinent articles emphasizing evidence-based clinical practice, relevant research, and scientific review of techniques.

Maxicourse is divided into 10 Modules spread over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of each month from September to June. Completion of 10 modules, including all lectures, cadaver training, hands-on sessions, and independent literature reading assignments will constitute 300 hours of Continuing Education credits. A certificate of Completion is awarded by the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine.

Completion of Maxicourse satisfies the educational requirement for Part 1 of the Associate Fellowship credential of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

The course is divided into 10 modules with each module spread over 3 days weekend schedule.

Program includes placement of over 100 implants on cadavers with all surgical, prosthetic components and materials included. The course was developed keeping in mind the needs of the learner. The curriculum is case and evidence based.

The course is not system or product based. During the course several implant systems are taught. The participants will be familiar with most of the popular systems in the world and will be able to restore with ease almost any implant.

The faculty who teach at the course are pioneers and educators. They are experts in the subject matter that they have been chosen to cover. They are eager to share their wealth of information and have offered to mentor the participants and are available to help with their cases.

Many of our participants have become leaders and heads of departments. Several deans have graduated from our program and have implemented departments of implant dentistry in their institutions.

Course Objectives

  • Provide an intensive overview of state-of-the-art in implant dentistry appropriate for all skill levels.
  • Examine the medical assessment of the dental implant patient, including systemic considerations, existing medication use, and potential contraindications to implant treatment.
  • Understand the prosthodontic considerations for dental implant reconstruction.
  • Build confidence in dental implant treatment planning
  • Understand the foundation needed for implant site development following dental extractions
  • A comprehensive review of implant restoration including prosthodontic rehabilitation
  • Examine implant complications and steps to take for their prevention
  • Preparation for the AAID Fellow/Fellow membership examinations
